Shavuot

Finding Strength in Unity

Dear Friends,

As Shavuot approaches, our hearts are filled with anticipation and joy for Z’man Matan Torah’tenu – the time of our receiving the Torah. Shavuot serves as a beautiful reminder of the unity and strength that binds us as the Jewish people. It’s a time to recall how we stood together at Har Sinai as “Am Achad B’Lev Achad” – One Nation with One Heart.

When the Jewish people gathered at the foot of Har Sinai to receive the Torah, we did so with a shared purpose and spirit. This gathering was unparalleled; it included all past, present, and future generations of Jews, youngest to oldest, of all abilities, standing together as one. The unity of that moment underscores a powerful message: every Jewish individual, regardless of needs or abilities, is an essential part of the community.

We proclaimed “Na’aseh V’Nishma” – we will do and we will hear. This declaration of commitment to action and understanding is something that continues to define us as a people and is a beacon for us at Libenu. The Torah is not just an ancient text; it is our eternal guide to a life filled with meaning, purpose, compassion, and kindness as well as a pledge to care for the most vulnerable among us.

As Jews, we are living in challenging times that seem incomprehensible – a world turned upside-down. Every day, our hearts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters in Israel. We are facing unprecedented levels of anti-Semitism on our college campuses, in the media, in our communities, and worldwide. It can feel truly overwhelming; however, it is in moments like these that the importance of unity and faith within the Jewish people becomes even more crucial than ever. By standing together, supporting one another, and fostering a sense of inclusion and community – Am Achad B’Lev Achad – we will navigate these difficulties with strength and resilience – as the Jewish people have done for millennia. Together, we will continue to illuminate the world with the light of the Torah, embodying its teachings in our lives and actions.

Chag Shavuot Sameach!
